Ethiopia Guji Kalimaz Natural
We’re proud to offer this coffee from Tariku Getachew, the Project Site Manager for the Kalimaz project in Guji, Ethiopia. At just 27, Tariku is a second-generation coffee farmer who brings a wealth of experience and passion to his role. For the past five years, he's been the driving force behind this Guji site, leading by example and inspiring his team to maintain the highest standards of quality.
The Kalimaz project is centered around the Gerba Wet/Dry Station, where both washed and natural processing methods are employed. The coffee is grown at elevations ranging from 1800 to 2100 meters above sea level, providing ideal conditions for slow maturation and complex flavor development.
This lot comes from a community of 500 regular farmers, with up to 750 contributing during peak seasons. These farmers cultivate their coffee under the shade of indigenous trees such as Birebera, Besana, Girawa, and Shola, which not only provide the perfect microclimate for coffee but also contribute to the local ecosystem's biodiversity. The harvest season runs from roughly November 15th to January 15th, during which Tariku remains on-site, overseeing every step of the process to ensure consistency and quality.
The area around Bule Hora, where ths project is located, is rich in agricultural diversity. Alongside coffee, farmers grow crops like Enset (false banana), banana trees, Bolokea, and oranges. This diversity not only provides additional income for the farmers but also contributes to the unique terroir that makes Guji coffees so special.
